Chosen Light

No matter how slow the film, Spirit always
stands still long enough for the
photographer It has chosen. ~Minor White

There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been! ~Percy Bysshe Shelley

Hidden in the Light

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached
up toward the light. But I was coming to realize
that the real magician was light itself. ~Edward Steichen

It is during our darkest moments that
we must focus to see the light. ~Aristotle Onassis

Raining Gray

Nature is so powerful, so strong.
Capturing its essence is not easy...
your work becomes a dance with light
and the weather. It takes you to a
place within yourself. ~Annie Leibovitz

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat
upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby. ~Langston Hughes

Life in Black & White

I wish that all of nature's magnificence,
the emotion of the land, the living energy of place could be photographed. ~Annie Leibovitz

With an eye made quiet by the power of
harmony, and the deep power of joy,
we see into the life of things. ~William Wordsworth

Petals in Shadow

My own eyes are no more than scouts on a preliminary search, for the camera's eye may entirely change my idea. ~Edward Weston

Out of the Darkness

And only the photographer himself knows the effect he wants. He should know by instinct, grounded in experience, what subjects are enhanced by hard or soft, light or dark treatment. ~Bill Brandt

He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sun rise.
~William Blake

Light & Dark

Photography suits the temper of this age...
of active bodies and minds.
It is a perfect medium for one whose mind
is teeming with ideas, imagery,
for a prolific worker who would be slowed down by painting or sculpting, for one who sees quickly
and acts, decisively, accurately. ~Edward Weston

But now in September the garden has cooled, and with it my possessiveness. The sun warms my back instead of beating my head... The harvest has dwindled, and I have grown apart from the intense midsummer relationship that brought it on. ~Robert Finch

offers an infinite variety of perception,
interpretation and execution. ~Ansel Adams

Keep your face always toward the sunshine
and shadows will fall behind you. ~Walt Whitman

Gray Wisdom

In wisdom gathered over time I have
found that every experience is a
form of exploration. ~Ansel Adams

Just when I Thought I was going to get back in the groove...Friday the 13th happened. Seriously, it was not a good day for the computer. Gone is my faithful desktop to the computer graveyard. Thankfully the hard drive was not wiped out. I have retrieved most of the important files and data...now it is just getting used to using the laptop. But if that is all that I have to complain about then...we're doing good. To many others out there I know you are having great difficulties. My prayers go out to family and friends who are facing terrible illness and financial hardships. There are others in the country facing tragedy and catastrophe and our hearts are with you.

There are moments in life,
when the heart is so full of emotion
That if by chance it be shaken,
or into its depths like a pebble
Drops some careless word,
it overflows, and its secret,
Spilt on the ground like water,
can never be gathered together.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Somewhere Between the Grays

When words become unclear,
I shall focus with photographs.
When images become inadequate,
I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams

I have been neglecting my blog...I will try to do a little better about posting. Can't believe September is almost half way done. It will be a little black and white month. Trying a few experimentation's with exposure and light. We'll see....

A good photograph is knowing
