Last Friday in September

Can you believe that September is almost over? Where did the year go? Was out and about the other day and noticed that my neighbor's orange trees are beginning to ripen. Oranges for October. Yeah!

A Little Bit of Autumn in the Air

Signs of Autumn are in the air. A few leaves have begun to change and occasionally there is a breeze blowing slightly cooler air. Still waiting for that cold crisp morning. May be waiting a while. But I will enjoy the colors of the season as they slowly begin to turn. The light is warm and glowing.

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather
And autumn's best of cheer."
~Helen Hunt Jackson

Spider Lily

Well...the cooler weather has disappeared once again. And humidity and heat have returned to south Texas. Yes, the sunshine is beautiful but the ragweed is kicking my behind. Sneezing and trying to take photographs, especially micro is difficult. But alas...I will survive. Come on October! But for now enjoy these beautiful spider lilies that have been popping up all around the neighborhood.

"There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky,
which through the summer is not heard or seen,
as if it could not be, as if it had not been!"

Ah...Lantana

Brilliant colors! So loving the cooler weather. Just wish I had some more time to get out and shoot more flowers. These colors having me ready for fall. But of course we won't see these colors on the trees until late November if we're lucky. Ah the joys of living in the South.

Wisteria Wisteria

No matter how many times I stroll by these enormous bushes I still find the beauty of the wisteria blossoms to be awe-inspiring. Sometimes when the light hits them just right they look blue and at other times they are bright purple. Love the colors either way!

"Well, my friends give me purple flowers and orange tea
and goose down spinning quilts and turquoise chairs
we greet one another in a wild profusion of words
and wave farewell amidst the wonderment of air
In the laughing times we know we are lucky
In the quiet times we know that we are blessed
And we will not be alone"

Canvas of Blue

Love this color blue! The Plumbago is just beautiful and the butterflies flock to it. In the shade it is a wonderful shade of royal blue, but in the sun it sparkles iridescent sapphire.

"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand,
Rejoice, for your soul is alive."

Pink & Purple

I have photographed these pink flowers before. I did not know that the centers grow like this and pop out beautiful purple blooms. They sparkle and shine in the sunlight. Gorgeous to look at.

Morning Glory...Morning Glory...

Morning Glory...Morning glory...wrapped around the leaves. They twist and turn and climb among the evergreens. They come in many hues and shades from pretty purple to pure white. I am kind of partial to the pink. Morning glory...Morning glory...with dewdrops and sunshine. They finger out across the garden embracing everything.

"When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it,
it's your world for the moment.
I want to give that world to someone else.
Most people in the city rush around so,
they have no time to look at a flower.
I want them to see it whether they want to or not."
~ Georgia O'Keeffe

Draped In Morning Dew

They are golden blossoms surrounded by scarlet petals and draped with liquid diamonds. The morning dew lingers on these beautiful blossoms for a moment weighing them ever-so slightly. They seem to bow their fragile heads in morning prayer as the drops slip slowly to the ground. As the sunlight dries away the moisture each petal lifts toward the light. Bright, alert, and ready for the day.

"I hope some day to meet God,
because I want to thank Him for the flowers."
~Robert Brault

When Will Summer End?

Wow! It's the middle of the week already. How time flies when you are having fun. I have been trying to make a point of going outside to shoot some everyday. Doesn't always work that way, however. This week's temperatures are making it a bit unbearable at times. Still...I am determined to make it out there at least a couple of times. Really looking forward to Fall. Time for some color changes. But in the mean time, leftover summer yellows will have to do.

Scarlet Blooms

Beautiful blooms of scarlet, crimson and ruby hues. Butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies abound. They each flutter pass the succulent blossoms searching for the sweet nectar. Bright petals attract hummingbirds to feast as well.

"Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning."
~Lydia M. Child
